The Ardennes is one of the oldest breeds of draft horse, and originates from the Ardennes area in Belgium, Luxembourg, and France. These horses have relatively heavy bones and are used primarily for draft work. They come in bay, roan, chesnut, gray, and even palomino. The horse weighs up to 2,200 pounds, and gets 15 to 16 hands high on average. Ardennes horses typically have a gentle nature and are people-oriented. They usually have large heads, and have a good amount of muscular strength.
