- Souloln Tiger Horse The Soulon Tiger Horse is an ancient breed of Chinese origin. These horses have a powerful neck, heavy quarters, and elegant, convex heads. Very similar in structure to an Andalusian with distinctive spotted coats like an Appaloosa, Soulons are elegant movers and must exhibit special gaits in order to be registered, including a running walk and stepping pace gait. Acceptable coat patterns include leopard, near leopard, varnish roan, and snowcap roan. Although the breed itself is ancient, going back to the Chinese T’Ang Dynasty, the breed registry is relatively new. Soulon Tiger Horses are derived from the Tiger Horse, which was commonly used to hunt tigers in the mountainous regions, and local Chinese stock, producing a larger framed animal better suited to military use.
