References
While most famous for their gorgeous dapple grey coats, the Percheron also commonly comes in black. Only grey and black Percherons are permitted in the French and British registries, however, the American registry also allows bay, chestnut, and roan horses. Both the grey and black Percherons are born with black coats. Homozygous black horses will retain their black coat, while greys will fade from black to progressingly lighter shades of grey as they age. Regardless of color, only small white markings on the face and legs are permitted, per the breed standard. This stallion sports the traditional red yarn braids and “SP” brand on his neck, representing the French Percheron registry, the “Société Hippique Percheronne.” Sources: Link Link Link
