Gypsy Vanner A breed famous for its flashy looks, the Gypsy Vanner was named in honor of the Gypsies of Great Britain, who spent over half of a century selectively breeding the perfect horse for pulling their caravans and looking gorgeous while at it. The breed combines the bloodlines of the Clydesdale, Shire, and native British ponies into what the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society describes as a “people-sized” draft horse. In many ways a scaled down draft horse, Gypsy Vanners exhibit a muscular, yet still athletic build and can by any solid color or pinto pattern. Substance of bone, ample musculature, especially at the hindquarters, a long, flowing mane and tail, and feathering below the knee are crucial breed traits.
