The Appaloosa Sport Horse, also known colloquially as the ‘Sportaloosa’, was developed in the USA with the intention of creating a European-style sport horse with the bold Appaloosa spotted colouring. Originally the breed was achieved by crossing the Appaloosa with athletic Trekehners, but today their ancestry also includes Thoroughbreds and other Warmblood influences.
The Appaloosa Sport Horse should be built like an athletic, light sporting horse rather than a stock horse like their Appaloosa ancestors. The head should be strong, erect and attractive atop a long and well-arched neck. The shoulders are oblique with high withers. The back is long with a rounded croup and muscular hindquarters. The legs are elegant and strong with a long, athletic stride.
To include all other pure/part sports horses such as Irish Sporthorses, as well as types like the hack/hunter.
