- See alt pics for images. White spotting (previously known as dominant white) is one of several depigmentation phenotypes known to exist in pedigree Thoroughbreds lines. It is the result of a spontaneous mutation of the KIT-gene and spotted patterns are variable, ranging from minimal "Sabino-like spotting" to all-white phenotypes. Eye color is typically brown. For a long time, the sabino-like patterning of loudly marked white spotted Thoroughbreds was thought to be the result of the sabino allele (Sb1), but we now know that Sb1 has not been found in Thoroughbreds.
