While true Sabino (Sb1) is not found in purebred Arabians, several testable sabino-mimicking white spotting patterns are found in abundance in certain pure Arabian lines. One such testable white spotting gene is ‘W19’ (which occurs on the KIT locus) which produces a flashy, sabino-like pinto pattern which is concentrated on the bottom line of the horse - usually all four feet will be white, along with liberal white spotting on the belly, neck and face. The original mutation responsible for W19 is thought to have occurred in the Arabian mare Fantasia Vu in 1990.
