References
Recognized as one of the smallest equine breeds, the Falabella is actually the descendant of Andalusians and other Iberian horses brought by the Conquistadores to South America during their campaigns against the native peoples. During the ensuing centuries, the selection pressure from the demanding climate and inbreeding due to their isolation molded the breed into small, yet very hardy ponies. The breed moniker is derived from the Falabella family, whose members sought to improve and refine the breed, especially in the case of the size. The introduction of British Spotted Pony blood in this stallion’s ancestry served to increase his frame size and added a bit of stockiness, as well as influencing his color pattern.
