- Selle Français Developed in the mid 20th century during the rise of equestrian sport, the Selle Français is an athletic sport horse best known for its Jumping ability. They are most commonly bay or Chestnut, often with white markings, and occasionally gray. Like many European warmbloods, the stud book is open to this day. Horses that meet the requirements are eligible for registration with their offspring being considered full Selle Français. Because of this, the type is somewhat variable. Some characteristics however remain uniform. The Selle Français has a wide forehead, a long neck, long, sloping shoulders, a deep chest, powerful hindquarters, and long legs with solid joints. They are a fairly large horse, typically standing between 16.1 and 16.3 hands.
