Breed question regarding crossbreds, grade
freemanstables
Monday, February 10, 2025 4:16 PMUp until now, if I have a horse that is a crossbred between two purebreds and there is no registry that would include that particular cross (or it's not listed in our options here), I've been putting one of the breeds in Breed and the other in Crossbreeds. Like this:
Breed: Fell Pony
Crossbreeds: Welsh Sec. C
And I might put something in documentation, like "50-50 Fell and Welsh Sec. C cross; white markings come from her Welsh parent."
But I've noticed that some do it like this:
Breed: Grade Pony
Crossbreeds: Fell Pony, Welsh Sec. C
I think of a grade horse as one that has no pedigree at all, so I didn't think of doing it the second way. Should I change the way I'm doing it for correctness/getting the horse into classes?
Thx!

Tuesday, February 11, 2025 6:29 AMBoth can technically be considered correct and both usually work with system filtering. Some hosts may choose to restrict cross/mix classes to grade, which would mean you'd need to do the second method to enter the class correctly, but most of the time this is not the case and you can easily enter your mixed horses into their correct mixed classes. That said, if you do the second method, you would be able to enter that horse into both classes that set it up that way and classes that don't.
