I know this is a huge ask, but I feel like there might be a lot of people in the same position as me.

I am relatively new to models and showing (as in, I just started collecting as an adult last year). Unfortunately, I've "aged out" of a lot of novice options in different clubs due to showing in too many online photo shows. But, I'm still dying for feedback on how to improve since I've just been entering, hoping for the best, and just kind of looking at the winning entries. I even entered Breyer Boot Camp this year thinking there would be individual feedback since we were paying a premium to enter and was more than a little heartbroken when I saw that the feedback was generalized to the entire division by each judge (some did go into a bit more detail on their top 10). I COMPLETELY understand how much time and effort would go into giving individual feedback on an entire show, but I would be willing to compensate appropriately to even get a sentence about how I could improve an entry.

Just a little ear worm to some more experienced judges: at least one "novice" show-er would be willing to pay for more feedback and wouldn't even be mad if it was limited to one entry per class/division.

I will be leaving advice on certain entries in the 2022 Spotted Dreams Photo Show, I'll make sure to catch yours. :)

Hi,

I showed live about 14 years ago and just started getting back into. Now I am dabbling in photo, I am fairly new to photo showing too. Have you checked out MEPSA - Model Equine Photo Showing Association? They have a novice division and they provide critiques and feedback. It has been a positive experience. You get 2 years of being a Novice show before you have to move into open. You send in hard copy photos, not a virtual platform.

Hope this may help.

Kind Regards.

Yep! I'm actually planning on starting to show with them when their new year starts up since they're doing their championships now. I feel like physical photos is going to be a whole new ball game.

I showed with MEPSA for years, and served as club secretary for two. Corina is spot on; the MEPSA Novice judges give individual feedback and are great with answers and advice. Mail-in photo showing is a different ballgame, but I think you'll find it's fun - and wait until you get your first physical prints of your favorite photos and can hold them in your hands. ;-)

If anyone would like to set up such novice show, I'd be more than happy to help as a judge! I have time and energy to help out and leave comments to entries, and I think that would be actually a great idea to have at least one novice show a year.

I'd just suggest setting up a private enterant list, as I'm pretty sure there will be people that completely ignore "novice" part and enter to snag some placings

Same here. I'd be happy to volunteer. And I second the motion of creating a private entrant list. :)
