Hi,

I have a Welara mare. The breed were bred in England originally but were commonly bred in America. Does this mean this type of pony is European or American?

Thanks ;)

I believe that would be European, but I'm not 100%. :)

I'm not terribly familiar with the Welara, but I would think England/UK, since I believe it goes by the origin of the breed. If a breed has been "Americanized" and has the label, such as the American Belgian or American Brabant, then it would probably be an American breed. Sometimes it depends how the show host chooses to organize their classes though.

Ok, thanks! I'll go with European since that's where they were very first.

Actually, sadly enough, i think i have to go with American origin since that's what category her breed was under when I made her profile. I thought the Europeans would get the credit. :( Oh well.

I'm sure she's lovely and I'm looking forward to her image receiving approval so I can see her! :)

"It was originally bred in England by Lady Wentworth at the Crabbet Arabian Stud in the early 1900s from imported Arabian stallions and Welsh pony mares. Breeding then spread throughout North America."

The breed registry was also formed in the US.

I'm guessing that's why they are listed as an American pony.

I think your model matches the breed really well! :)
