The images are public domain and free to download, though if you can make a small donation to the artist it's appreciated.
Old calendars can be a treasure trove, especially if you show the smaller models. A calendar page and some cotton made the snow scene for Thalion. For Gypsy Moon, I made a false barn front for an old shipping box -"outdoor" backdrops don't have to be landscapes, after all.;-)
I'm making most of my backdrops now from my own photos, which is also a good motivator to get outside and play!

Monday, March 21, 2022 6:58 AMI use an indoor arena set up, out of scrap wood glued to a sheet of poster board and detailing added for realism. I also sponged on an acrylic mix to a sheet of posterboard to get a nice, marbley neutral backdrop for halter photos.

Friday, May 20, 2022 1:00 AMI recently tried something new for a display on top of my bookcase: stick-on windows to turn the wall behind it into a barn:
I call this version 2.0 as these are the second set of windows I've made. It started as a lark, but some of the test photos I've taken came out well enough, I'm actually entering them in shows. :-D

Monday, May 23, 2022 10:09 AMYou can find a variety of diorama backdrops here: https://flic.kr/s/aHsiDA9U83
These also work very well for stablemate photography. If you have a colour printer, just print them off on standard 8.5 x 11 matte paper.

Tuesday, May 24, 2022 2:28 PMPostcards can actually make good backgrounds for most Stablemates/Chips and it's pretty easy to find scenic landscapes, pastures, fields, deserts, etc. Also, always check what the background photos are on some of the Breyer window boxes when you buy a model. They sometimes make great backgrounds, too.
