Excited to get started!

Hi everyone! Looking forward to getting started in photo showing. I've been live showing for about 20 years and just starting to dip my toes in the photo shows. I was recently asked to judge a photo show and had a great time!

My question for this platform, are we required to use physical photo backgrounds or are we allowed to use background adders like photo room for example? Of course not to modify the image in any way, just to add a background to it. I just wanted to make sure because if not allowed I will get to work on a real backdrop!

Thanks for reading!

Hey there, welcome to OMHPS! I hope you have a great time - there is always plenty of shows to enter :)

As for your question, this will vary from show to show. It is dependent on the individual hosts' rules. Some allow background editing and some don't. The common trend seems to be allowing minor edits only (such as lighting and color correction) and no large edits (such as backgrounds or edits to the model itself). Having a physical backdrop would likely be beneficial to enter more shows, and this can be something as simple as a poster or sheet. Just check each individual's show rules or contact the hosts and you'll be able to see if they allow it or not.

Welcome to OMHPS!

As mentioned above, most shows say no or minimal editing only. If you have minis, scrapbook paper makes a great, cheap plain-type backdrop and you can get different colors/patterns to suit different models!
