Introducing the Flash Show Series

Wednesday, June 14, 2023 2:08 PMIntroducing the Flash Show Series, incorporating some new ideas for showing your models in different ways with different focuses. All shows will be FREE.
Shows will have limited criteria, class lists, entry caps and registration dates but different Flash Shows will be held often and the goal is to judge them promptly. The target is to have judging completed within two weeks of registration closing (with the understanding that “real life” sometimes happens!).
Some possible Flash Show ideas may include: special themes, seasonal or holiday shows, non-winners only, model off sides, specific colors, specific breeds or molds, or specific poses.
Select shows may have classes limited to 10 entries ONLY – so every eligible entry gets a standard virtual ribbon and associated points.
Many shows will have three scale divisions (or sections, depending on show structure):
Large Scale – 1:6, 1:9, 1:12 (Large Traditional, Traditional, Classic)
Medium Scale – 1:15, 1:18, 1:24 (Paddock Pal, Pebbles, CollectA, Little Bits, Curio, etc.)
Mini Scale – 1:32, 1:64 (Stablemate, Chip, Micro)
Note: This is an experiment! The first few shows will be tests. Continuing the Flash Show Series will depend if classes are filling and shows are being supported by participation.

Friday, June 16, 2023 4:45 AMCan I ask how OMPHS deals with time zones? Does the system have one default time zone built in, does it take in our locations and adjust accordingly, or does it go by whatever the time is where the judge sets it up from?
I'm just thinking, with the entry capped schedules, time differences might make things trickier - if shows open at midnight in any of the US time zones, by the time Europe wakes up the next morning, the classes could be full. And if it works on each member's own local time, Australian entrants will have a headstart and could take all ten gaps before anyone else is awake!
I like the idea of limiting class size so everyone gets points, just not sure how it will work when we're all in different places round the world, and much as I enjoy showing and try to support all the free shows on here, I'm too old and tired to be getting up at 4am to have a chance at getting horses in classes, hahah!

Friday, June 16, 2023 5:42 AMI like this idea a lot! I would say if the class is limited to 10 or (even 25 as the ones in the current show) wouldn't it make sense to limit the number of horses per user to one per class instead of three? That way more people would have a chance to participate before the classes are full. :)

Friday, June 23, 2023 12:16 PMAnnaDO, that's a great point. This was my thinking. Since this is the first Flash Show -- so a test -- I didn't want to restrict entries too significantly to see how well the show is received. Another consideration is that some of the classes may not fill at all if I restrict to just one entry per exhibitor. If I find that most of the classes fill, I'll definitely look at limiting entries per exhibitor for future shows to one, especially for those shows that are only allow 10-25 entries per class. Thanks for your feedback and input. Very helpful. :)

Friday, June 23, 2023 12:25 PMHarecroftHorses, that's a really good point on the time of day the show starts in different time zones. I'm not actually sure what time zone the site uses (I'll see if anything is noted in the show tutorial), except that I've noted when a show is listed as starting on X date at midnight, it's usually open for entries earlier in the day in my time zone.
It's a difficult one to address but I'll try to brainstorm on that a bit.
Thanks for your comment. :)
