Pleased with comments

I recently entered a Schooling Show where the judge gave feedback on my entry. I've never had a judge do that before, and I found it very helpful! I would love for other hosts to do this, because it really does change the way I think about my photos!

I agree! The judge gave me one or two as well. :)

As a judge, I try to leave notes on a lot of photos. It is sad that very few judges and hosts take the time to do that anymore. I hope it can be something that we see start to make a return in 2023!

I agree SpottedDreamsStudio, hopefully more judges will leave comments in the future. I try my best to leave at least a few per class that I judge.

I'm always interested in what judge's have to say (even though I might disagree with some of them😉), and appreciate it when judges make an effort to leave comments behind. Likewise I always try to do the same in my shows— particularly when I really like an entry, or when I feel a comment might be helpful & informative in some way. 🙂

I tend to disregard some comments as judges can be too picky. I had one about not 'cropping' my photo in enough, well I leave room for the model to breathe and 'move into' I actually do not like cramped, closely cropped photos also I leave them in the ratio I originally took them at so I can also print them out as when printing there are set ratios at print stores. Helpful comments yes, unhelpful ones I ignore. Especially when told my white balance or something is out ... I use a calibrated screen and unless the other person does the same well I am not responsible for errors their side haha!

I agree with this....I made a post a few months ago relating to that topic. But overall I've been happy with most judges posts, and I've found them really helpful. I try to pay attention to every comment I get, even if I don't think they're right. It can show me how different judges may think and why my photo made my entry place the way it did. They've helped humble me with how I look at my photos, and I think they've improved a lot after I received helpful comments ☺️

I definitely appreciate it when judges take the time to make comments, especially given how much work it is to judge a show at all. I may not agree with every comment (opinions do differ, after all), but constructive criticism helps me improve, and a hearty kudos on an entry I've worked hard on (which is all of them, lol) really makes my day!
