American Sportpony (or North American Sportpony) Description: The North American Sportpony should be 13.2-14.2 hands high, with a regal head attached to a long, wide neck, a stout and athletic body, dry limbs and flat knees. All colors are accepted. History/Requirements: The breed originally developed from a variety of horse and pony breeds including the Quarter Horse, Morgan, Welsh Pony, Connemara Pony, Thoroughbred and Arabian to create a competitive pony for sporting events such as dressage, jumping and driving. The North American Sportpony is a sport breed similar to the American Warmblood, and evolved as a section of the American Warmblood Registry in 1997, later being established as a separate registry in 2003. Ponies are required to go through an inspection and also be DNA-typed for the registry. Sources: Link -- Link -- Link
