Vladimir heavy draft The Vladimir heavy draft was created to fulfill a need for strong work horses. Clydesdales, Suffolk Punches, Ardennais, and, to a lesser extent, Shires, were used as foundation stock. Breeding began in the early 20th century and the horses were determined to be breeding true to type in 1946. The most common color is bay, but black and chestnut are also seen. These horses frequently have markings on their faces and legs. Vladimir Heavy Drafts have a straight or Roman nose, a large, muscular neck set into a wide chest and strong shoulders, and strong hind quarters. They have a large, deep girth and tucked up abdomen. Their legs are typically short and can have light to moderate feathering. Their heights range from 15 to 16.1 hands.
