- Justin Morgan, the foundation sire of the Morgan breed tackled all manner is tasks including field work, logging in the Green Mountain country, pulling contests and racing. A growing number of ranchers use Morgan's as stock horses. The Morgan Stock Horse Association promotes the breed and provides education of its many virtues. Morgans come in a variety of colors, although they are most commonly bay, black, and chestnut. Three pinto color patterns are also recognized: sabino, frame overo, and splashed white.
