- Marwari The Marwari is an ancient breed of horse from the Marwar region of India. They were once highly valued and regarded as deities, allowed to be ridden only by royalty and warriors. The breed was nearly destroyed by mechanization and British influence, but today there are people working within breed societies to help maintain it, although the breed is still relatively small in numbers and very rarely found outside of India. The Marwari is typically bay but can also be chestnut, gray, Palomino, black, and pinto. They have distinctive, curled ears that often touch at the tips, a long, slender neck, tall withers, a straight or slightly Roman profile, long backs, and long slender legs with small, well formed hooves.
