The Pryor Mountain Mustang is a genetically unique sub-breed of American mustang, descended from colonial Spanish horses as well as America’s feral population.
They have a very specific conformation type - they have a thick, strong body with strong bones, a convex head and nose and a broad muzzle. They have long, sloping shoulders, prominent withers and medium to narrow chests. They have uniquely feathered hooves compared to other mustangs. Many of the breed also exhibit a natural ‘ambling’ gait. They can be of any wild-occuring colour and the Frame Overo pinto pattern is common.
