- American cream draft horse Breeding of the American cream began in the 1920s. Due to mechanization, their numbers have never been very high, but a small number still exist. Their coloration is genetically champagne, not cream. They can be a few different shades, but must be Amber champagne to be registered in the main book. They stand between 15 and 16.3 hands, have a straight facial profile, are close coupled, have strong hindquarters, and free, easy movement. Enthusiasts say that they are a very kind, gentle breed to work with.
