- The Pfalz-Ardenner (aka the Palatinate-Ardennes) is a relatively young breed, originating in the early 1900s. The breed is heavily influenced by the Comtois, Ardennes, Belgian, and Rhenish-German Coldblood breeds. The breeding association states that the breed is a "versatile, light to medium-weight cold-blooded horse with expansive and loose movement" and has a "particular emphasis on sociability, balance, willingness to perform, and performance." They come in foxes, browns, blacks, grays, as well as roans. They have an expressive head with broad forehead and friendly eyes, a curved, well set neck with a medium-sized, muscular body with a chest of good width, a good belt depth, well positioned shoulders, and a well muscled croup. Legs and feet are typically dry, correct and without much feathering, and have hard hooves with a good shape. They are an overall well temperamental horse with a willingness to perform and a large sociability aspect.
