- Hanoverian Originating in the German state of Lower Saxony, the Hanoverian has long been renowned as a high caliber sport horse. Bred first as a military and carriage horse, today’s Hanoverian breeder places emphasis on structural soundness, athletic ability, correctness of gaits, disposition, and trainability. Hanoverians have solid bone structure, sloping shoulders, slightly sloping croup, and muscular quarters whose proportions are crucial to the horse’s propulsion and athleticism. The Hanoverian may be bay, chestnut, gray, and black. White markings/patterns are permitted so long as they are recorded on registration paperwork. Sources: Link Link
