- The Haflinger breed ranges from a light gold to a deeper rich golden chestnut, with a flaxen mane and tail. Heights range from 13.2 - 15 Hands. The head is refined, neck is of medium length, sloped shoulder with a deep chest, medium-long muscular back. The breed originated in Austria and Northern Italy in the 19th Century. They are used for many disciplines, including general riding (English and Western), light harness and driving, pack work, trail, dressage, etc. There are two recognized types of Haflingers, a shorter, heavier type used for draft work, and a taller, lighter type used for pleasure riding, light driving, and under-saddle. The model pictured (KMR A Star Is Born) represents the taller, lighter type of Haflinger.
