Pearly variation What is a Pearly? During the mid-1970s there was a worldwide oil crisis making plastic a scarce commodity. Breyer often recycled models that were already painted or used recycled, colored plastic and painted a white base coat first to hide the original color (ie. chalkies). In 1975, Breyer was able to acquire a small amount of pearlescent white plastic which they used to mold some models. Models made with this plastic have an obvious pearlescent sheen especially noticeable in their white areas.
