Reference photo is of APHA (American Paint Horse Association) registered mare Queen of Tradition, displaying overo sabino paint patterning with large areas of white. Overo is a generalized term for patterns caused by one or more of the 30+ white-spotting pattern genes, excluding Tobiano. It includes patterns such as frame overo, sabino, splashed white, and others. Each “overo” pattern gene behaves a little differently, and presentation on the horse’s coat might vary.
