Silver bay, caused by the silver (Z) gene, though rare, is found in a few lines of Quarter Horse. Silver bay is characterized by typical red bay coloring, sometimes a bit lighter, points that are not quite as dark or not fully filled out, and silvery coloring (sometimes similar to flaxen) in the mane and tail.
