The Morgan horse is one of the earliest developed breeds within the United States. They are compact and come most commonly in bay, chestnut, or black, but can come in many other colors including pinto. They have strong legs, an expressive head with a straight or slightly convex profile and broad forehead; large eyes, well-defined withers, laid-back shoulders, and an upright well-arched neck.
Roan used to be found within the Morgan breed, but has since died out within the last century. However, it did exist once before.
