The Australian Appaloosas & Australian Spotted Ponies Inc. states that the Australian Spotted Pony follows the Australian Pony Stud Book standard but with Leopard spotted patterning. Conformation may vary for this reason, but the head should always show a pony-like profile with large, alert eyes and open nostrils. The neck should be slightly crested with a good length of rein. Shoulders should slope to well-defined withers and the back should be strong and loins well-coupled with a deep girth. Hind-quarters should be well-rounded with a proportionate length of croup. Any base colours are accepted - roan is common.
