North American Spotted Draft According to the North American Spotted Draft Association, the ideal North American Spotted Draft (NASD) horse if of a type most closely related to their draft pedigree, be it of Percheron, Clydesdale/Shire, Belgian, Suffolk Punch type, etc., and exhibits pinto coloring in a tobiano, overo, or tovero pattern. All base colors are accepted, as are blue eyes. The average height of a NASD is between 16-17hh and, due to their typically smaller frame size than their draft predecessors, are often more athletic. There are currently two categories in the NASD registry, Premium Spotted Drafts and Regular Spotted Drafts, depending on their percentage of draft blood and the other breeds in the horse’s ancestry.
