Reference link: Link HISTORY: This British Isles breed was developed in the Hebrides, a group of western isles in Scotland. The origins of the breed are ancient, with roots in Celtic and Norse breeding and they are related to other northern breeds, including the Icelandic horse and the Faroe pony. Although once abundant, the Eriskay Pony is now in "critical status" with less than 200 breeding females remaining.
