The Western Horse with Clock was a regular run palomino released on the Western Horse mold. One of the earliest Breyers ever produced, and the first mold Breyer ever sold, this version included Breyer’s palomino Western Horse #57 mounted on a base by Mastercrafters Clock Co. around 1950-1953.

In the 1940s, after World War II, Mastercrafters returned to creating clocks after aiding in the war effort. Their earliest clocks featured the Hartland Victor model, a model very similar and easily mistaken for a Breyer Western Horse, which was posed standing overtop of the clock. Around 1950, Mastercrafters switched to using Breyer’s newly-produced Western Horses on over-clock production. Starting around 1951, Western Horses mounted alongside clocks instead of overtop started popping up. Although Breyer’s Western Horses were produced much longer than 1953, all known Mastercrafter’s clocks feature models with O-link reins only, which suggests that Mastercrafters stopped producing Breyer horse clocks around that year. Shortly after this, Breyer began producing stand-alone horse models, which was the beginning of the company as we know it today. This model with the clock predates most Breyer plastic models as toys or collectibles, and is a fascinating piece of Breyer Horse history.
