Oldenburg Originally developed as a carriage horse, the Oldenburg owes its lineage to Thoroughbred, Hanoverian, Spanish, Barb, Friesian, and Trakehner bloodlines. Native to a small section of Lower Saxony surrounding the town of Oldenburg, the breed society seeks to improve their bloodlines through using elite stallions of other breeds, as opposed to most other German warmbloods, who focus solely on their own stud books. In addition to the traditional stallion inspection, in order to be registered as breeding stock, Oldenburg stallions must also undergo a 100 day training period at the government owned testing station at Adelheidsdorf. These rigorous standards produce superb saddle and sport horses, and the breed is especially prized as showjumping and eventing mounts. Although the original Oldenburg horses were famous for their coal black coats, their modern counterparts are most commonly grey, bay, and black. Source: Link
