Sunday, March 20, 2022 10:05 PMAdorable! As my studio name professes, I am a complete sucker for Appaloosas. I do professional customs and sell them. I also do personal commissions from time to time. I'm glad to see a new customizer out there!

Saturday, May 14, 2022 12:12 AMI know many hobbyists, including myself, who've had problems with Krylon matte sealer going sticky over time. Years ago it was my finish of choice. I don't know if the formula changed or what, but I won't even let it in my house now. I've had to re-finish many Kryloned models with a coat of Testors Dullcote to salvage them from being four legged flypaper. :-(
For an acrylic based sealant, I've switched to Deco Art and so far so good.
FWIW, summers are very hot and humid where I live, and I've no doubt that climate can be a factor in how well a given sealant holds up long term. And as a cautionary note, any painted artwork that is sprayed with a finish coat before it is completely cured, not merely dry, can also have problems down the line.

Saturday, May 14, 2022 8:43 AMI totally agree Red Oak Ranch. I am aware of the danger of Krylon, but where I live, PA, I have no problems with it, and none of my hobby people up here have had issues. Testors dullcoat is by far the best one out there though. I just don't have it readily available to me, and the last time I had a spray can shipped. . . whoo. Let's not go there. (When will people learn how to pack a shipping box??) lol.
I haven't tried deco-art, but I might have to! :) Is it good about no yellowing? That's the main reason for my preference to krylon.

Sunday, May 22, 2022 7:16 PMWell, I know this much: I was referred to the Deco Art Americana acrylic matte finish by a southwestern artist whose model creations are mainly cattle and appaloosa or pinto horses, so think lots of white. :-) I bought my first custom horse from him, a semi-leopard appaloosa Indian Pony, four years ago and she's still as bright as fresh snow. So are the many others I subsequently got from him, and my husband's beautiful black and white Longhorn. :-))) It does say non-yellowing as well as weatherproof on the label.
Sounds like you have an interesting Shipping Horror Story, but as my imagination runs with it...um, yep, traumatic!

Monday, May 23, 2022 8:32 AMI also specialize in Appy and pinto, so this sounds very promising! Thank you for the information!
