Spanish Mustangs - Can the Pryor Mountain Mustang be Added?

Wednesday, July 7, 2021 6:14 PM

According to my research, there are only five or six groups of Spanish Mustang in the US that are proven via DNA analysis to be descended from horses the Spanish brought to the New World. They are the Cerbat of Arizona, the Kiger of Oregon, the Sulphur or Sulphur Springs of Southwest Utah, the Pryor Mountain of Montano/Wyoming, and the Shackelford (aka Spanish Colonial, Banker and Corolla) of North Carolina. (Some references include the Chincoteague as a 6th group.)

The data base currently only lists three that I can find (other than Chincoteague Pony) -- Kiger Mustang, Cerbat Mustang and Spanish Sulphur (though I think they are generally referred to as just "Sulphur" or "Sulphur Springs Mustang").

Would it be possible to add the Pryor Mountain Mustang? They are actually the most famous band now, due to Cloud being from that group. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pryor_Mountain_mustang

Thanks. :)
