References: Thoroughbreds range from 15 to 17 hands in height, averaging at about 16 hands. The head of the thoroughbred is well-chiseled and sits on a long neck. They have high withers and a deep chest paired with a short back. Their hindquarters should have a good depth to them as well as long thin legs. The most common colors of the thoroughbred are bay, dark bay, chestnut, black, or grey. Less common colors are creme dilutes (buckskins, palominos, etc) and roans. While in most cases, the thoroughbred that is roan, the horse is just a bay or black going grey making it appear they are roans. Pinto and pintos are not recognized in the mainstream registries but there have been exceptions for this, such as with the famous racehorse Sato and Buchiko.
